Disc Repair Process

What is this all about?

Disc repair is all about making your discs work again by removing scratches, surface blemishes, and grime that has built up over time. Although there are many different formats of discs, they all work using the same method which makes it easier for us to clean them. By using professional, precision machinery we are able to cut the surface of the disc to remove the most deepest of scratches.

How do you repair discs?

Discs are read by laser beams that read the 0's and 1's on the data part of the disc. To protect the data a plastic film is applied over the top. Behind the data is foil to reflect the laser beam back. If the plastic or foil is scratched it will not allow the beam to return back to the source which results in the disc skipping or freezing the screen. The diagram below shows a disc trying to be read BEFORE and AFTER cleaning.

Beware of imitations!

The are many cheap disc cleaning kits available on the high street but BEWARE some actually cause more damage to the disc. If you have used these before you will have seen that most kits leave "swirls" on the disc which are actually scratches. As it happens we repair more discs that have been tried to be cleaned using the cheap disc cleaning kits than any other disc!

What can be repaired?

Many different formats can be repaired as the principle of repairing is the same. We are able to repair the following:

  • Music CDs
  • DVD (single disc)
  • DVD (double sided)
  • Dreamcast
  • CD Rom
  • CDR
  • CDRW
  • Gamecube
  • Playstation 1
  • Playstation 2
  • Wii
  • Xbox
  • Xbox 360

Can you repair the impossible?

NO! Discs that have been cracked, warped or where the foil has been damaged are not repairable. We have also noticed that some discs (especially one game on the Playstation - Which can't be named) may have software errors that causes the machine to freeze and unfortunately can't be repaired.

How do I send discs to you?

You need to request a FREE postal pack which contains protective packing for sending in your discs. Click here to fill out a request for a postal pack. We aim to repair and return discs within 3 days. We also offer FREE return delivery on all orders!
